Video Games Allow Transpeople to Be Themselves – HuffBlog

Being Transgender, video games were more than just an escape from reality but an escape from my body itself. They allowed me to be female if only in pixel form and if only temporary.

But there is value to this like a sort of therapy for us. It brings relief.

In my article, I asked a few friends to tell me about their experiences as well. I represent two individuals from the female camp and two from the male tribe.

It’s interesting to see how each had their own experience and to read about them. Please read the article on the Huffington Post Blog site and then feel free to come back here and comment if you like.

Due to Facebook’s policy of having to have your legal name displayed, transgender people are left with no choice but to go by a moniker that likely brings them pain each time they must use it.

Alas, using Facebook’s comments plugin is an easy way to add comments to your site and not have to moderate them too harshly. Please realize this and that the problem lies not with the site itself, but with Facebook. We have to take the fight directly to Facebook. The more people we can get to protest Facebook’s policies the better. It will be the only way for change. There is no reason they can’t have your legal name for the safety of others, while simultaneously allowing you to display your preferred name to the public. It is a simple database issue.

Until then, I have removed the Facebook comments from this post and once again allowed the normal comments section! This idea was formed by a suggestion that was made by Jack B on Twitter in relation to the article. You will have to sign up for the site by using this link and create an account, as I would still like to moderate the comments. The “Meta Links” section has everything you need to login and even create your own avatar because here,  you can use whatever name or profile pic you desire! (Provided it’s polite.)

Also, by signing up you’ll receive updates when a new post is live!

So, please tell me how video games have changed your life as a Transgender person. Feel free to speak your peace!
